Exploration Center/Office Assistant

Volunteers are needed at the SEE-North office as projects come up, helping staff members in tasks involving large mailings, filing, answering phones, computer projects and preparing materials for special events and classes. There are also special projects that arise and volunteers are needed for those one-time commitments. For more information about volunteering at the SEE-North Exploration Center or Office, contact Julie at (231) 348-9700 or julie@seenorth.org.

Events

Volunteering at a SEE-North event is a fun way to get involved in conneting people to nature in northern Michigan. Our annual events include Twelfth Night, our fundraising auction at the Center for Outdoor Studies, Spring and Winter open house events at the Exploration Center, Nature at Noon, and work-days at the Center for Outdoor Studies and monthly community education events. We need volunteers to do a variety of things, from transporting supplies for the event, posting flyers, teaching, organizing refreshments and the list goes on. For more information about volunteering for an event, contact Julie at (231) 348-9700 or julie@seenorth.org.

NorthWings Program

At our Center for Outdoor Studies, we have several educational birds of prey and birds undergoing rehabilitation. Volunteers assist the NorthWings director with food preparation, cage cleaning, bird maintenance, bird socialization and handling, and flight training. For more information about volunteering for the NorthWings program, contact Alison at (231) 348-9700 or alison@seenorth.org.

Environmental Learning for the Future

ELF Volunteers teach in local schools once a month extensions of their science classes. For more information about volunteering for the ELF program, contact Marty at (231) 348-9700 x 105 or marty@seenorth.org.

Gardens

The SEE-North Center for Outdoor Studies has several gardens that need care. Designed by a Master Gardener, these ornamental beds need weeding, watering, feeding, and transplanting. Additionally, we have several apple trees that need annual pruning and harvesting. Our site plan includes native shrubs and we could use a volunteer to help us install native shrubs that will be beneficial for insects, birds, and other wildlife living on the property. For more information about volunteering at the Center for Outdoor Studies gardens, contact Alison at (231) 348-9700 or alison@seenorth.org.
